Dear Anonymous, you can change a single face on a prim by clicking on the "Select Texture" button at the top of the Edit window, then clicking on one of the faces of the prim. This enables you to put different textures on each side of the prim :)

For things like fur, be sure you put a "Full Transparent" texture on all the faces first, then put the fur on the 2 main faces :)

Sascha, if you are applying a feather texture to a box prim, be sure that the feather texture is only on 2 faces on the box. All of the other faces of the box should have a completely transparent texture. Otherwise, you will see a white border...

Well I did it, made a Christmas dress... now I am turning into new ventures.. namely Feathers! However, once I insert the texture of the feathers into the flat box and made it flexi, all white stripes appear on the sides. Is that because of the texture (.png made in Photoshop) or because I have done something wrong?

Seohee, you've definitely hit on a sore topic of mine too! So yes, Ill write about it on the next entry. But be warned: I am not very good at handling it...I pretty much refuse to give out any more details and let the other person decide whether they want to continue being friends or not. Perhaps thats the right way...everyone has a different style.

Thanks so much! I really wanted to make myself something fuzzy for winter. What, I don't know yet :P

I'm a PSP 8 user (how does everyone else afford Photoshop, anyway?). I've only had it a week, so if a more experienced user has better techniques, please chime in!

1) New Image--make sure it's transparent. I used 512x512 pixels.

2) Add a black raster layer (for background).

3) Create another layer, make a very small circle using the preset shape tool, then flood fill it with white.

4) Use the smudge tool to smudge the lines as Miss Natalia says to. A circle of size 5 and a hardness of 95 seems to do the trick.

5) Turn off the black layer (click on the eye on the layer palette)

6) Layers>New Mask Layer>From Image. Make user "source opacity" is checked and "invert" is not then select "ok"

7)Layers>Load/Save Mask>Save Mask to Alpha Channel. You should get teh preview with the transparent areas in black. Select "Save"

8)Save file as a TGA file, upload it to SL, then proceed as for the rest of Nat's technique

PS I learned how to do Alpha channels in PSP courtesy of Cristiano's excellent tutorial on this page:
