Hello Natalia,

I've been going to your tutorials for making basic shirts and such and first I must thank you for making such a handy and helpful tutorial. I've gotten the basics down on how to make a shirt because of you. Thanks! However, I was wondering if you knew anybody who made tutorials for male clothing. I need to make male clothes and seeing as how your site is mainly geared towards females, do you know of any male clothing tutorials?

Actually, ties arent supposed to flap around like that, so flexi prim may not be the best thing to use to make the tie.

One way to get around it (or to make it a little better) is to increase the Tension and decrease the Drag on the flexi prim). It will make the tie bounce back quicker.

If I had to make this today, I would prob use a sculpted prim for the bottom part of the tie. That way, you would still have that nice pointy end without having to use a transparent texture :) You can make the sculpty itself using something like ROKURO (then use Wings 3D to curve it a little if you like). But I know that takes a bit of setting up (took me forever to get used to making sculpties).

Hopefully, this got you on the road to making some nice outfits :)

This tutorial is great but leaves a problem with the tie.

How do you get the tie to lay on the chest instead of going into it? The tie naturally hangs vertically (straight up and down) because of gravity in SL and so penetrates the chest rather than laying on top of it, following the natural curves of the surface of the chest. The tie should rest on the chest rather than penetrate it.

Yeah I use AvPainter. It helps a lot to touch up things. I made some baseball jerseys with pinstripes recently and they drove me CRAZY!!!!! Uggh. They will never look right on SL.

Snickers, unfortunately, I dont...I tried to make an outfit with a single stripe before and couldnt even do that :( But if you havent tried it, AVPainter is pretty good for previewing and editing things, cause you can actually do it on the avatar itself :)

RE: Men's Clothing -- I find it's actually harder to do that women's because the mesh distorts so badly near the pecs and shoulders -- especially so many male avas have their sliders set to "extra hulk" (ppfffft). I recently completed a series of baseball jerseys and getting the logos to look "right" on a typical male was really hard. What's worse was trying to do pinstripes!!!! OMG. I'm in hell!!!

Natalia, you wouldn't know of any kind of pre-defined photoshop filter for warping vertical lines so they look straight on an sl ava would you????

Amaranthim, I dont know of a men's clothing tutorial. But men's shirts are very similar to women's tops (and you dont even have to deal with the curves ;P).

The pants are like making other pants in SL. For jeans and stuff, they are typically photosourced (cut out from a photo and fitted onto the template). And Ive seen some nicely drawn ones too :)

I don't normally post comments,
but in relation to ties having pointy ends; I heard MANY years ago that it was something to do with the black plague and guys tied hankerchiefs around their necks - for 'convenience' I suppose. Thats why the pointy end became stuck in the fashion (not that I understand why the tie itself stuck as a fashion). Therefore and personally, I cant wait for these $#%@% nooses to be obliterated from modern day fashion once and for all ;)

Sascha, check out the SL Men blog! I dont think its harder to make men's clothes, just that fewer people are making them. For example, T-Shirts are so much easier to make for guys :) But for suits and formalwear, it is a bit for challenging to make those ties.
