Blendtec Designer Series Wildside – The Swiss Army of Blender

Posted on May 28 in Articles | 0 comments

You are a smoothie lover. You decided to buy a $30 blender to make your daily morning smoothies. Now you have a problem.

The smoothies produced by your $30 blender doesn’t make the cut. Your blender starts to show sign of ages only after 1 or 2 months of use.

Such frustration among true smoothie addicts (and I’m one of them) lead us all to search for that magical blending machine. A fantastic blender does not only make superb smoothies. A fantastic blender produces excellent smoothies and it does this consistently over many years.

If you are searching for that phenomenal blender, there will only be few candidates. Blendtec Designer Series is definitely one of those.

Dubbed as the ‘Swiss Army of Blenders‘, Blendtec Designer Series is really an extraordinary blender.

Need great fruit smoothies to start your day? This blender will make you hearty and heavenly fruit smoothies in less than 2 minutes.

Need great vegetable smoothies to rescue you from junk food during lunch? This blender will make you healthy and delectable green smoothies within minutes.

Love making your own jam, puree, hummus and soup? That’s when your $30 blender will fail miserably but not the Blendtec Designer Series.

But your biggest question will be this. With the Blendtec Designer Series costing more than 10x of your $30 blender, is there sufficient justification to it? Plenty.

Based on my own experience and the hundreds of feedbacks shared online, I can come up with a dozen of good reason to justify the price tag. But in this blender review, I’ll just pick few top reasons why you will not regret your investment in a Blendtec Designer Series.

Justifying the Price Tag of Blendtec Designer Series

First of all, I have to say the price of Blendtec Designer Series is not cheap. There are those who believe cheap and best can come together. I’m definitely not one of them.

But again, best can be really subjective. This is especially true when we talk about the best blender.

To some people, the best blender is simply one that is capable of making smoothies. Nothing more. Nothing less.

Notice how I didn’t say ‘making the best smoothies’. This is because to these people, every smoothie tastes the same. To these people, a glass of smoothie made with $30 blender will taste the same as a glass of smoothie made with $500 blender.

“Is there anything wrong with this?” No. There’s nothing wrong. But this is what separates the smoothie connoiseurs from the ordinary smoothie drinkers.

A high performance blender costs multiple times more expensive than no-frill blender because so much emphasis is dedicated to good design.

Good design means excellent blade structure. Good design means motor that is not only powerful but also minimizes the noise generated. Good design also means high quality jar that makes blending real easy (so easy that a fifth grader will be able to do it). A product that excels in these cannot be cheap.

But as a consumer, what can you expect? Let’s see.

Blendtec Designer Blender Lets You Make Green Smoothies that Kids Love

Excellent Blade Design

To a blender, good blade means if you throw fresh or frozen fruits into it, it will cut and pulverize your fruits and turn them into fine smoothies. If you throw green leaves and vegetables into it, it will have no problem liquefying them. They will make kale or celery green smoothies that the even the children will love.

Powered by High Quality Motor

What about the blender motor? All blenders work well when they are brand new. The question is how long they can last and maintain the top-level performance. The difference in quality between a $30 or even $50 blender with premium blenders like Blendtec Designer Series should be obvious to you by looking at the warranty period.

Can you tell me any $50 blender that is covered for 7-years? I bet you can’t. Because such blender does not exist! $30-$50 blenders only come with 1-year warranty. Worse still, my experience taught me that the motor performance of these blenders will start to go down after few months of use.

The low-cost motors will lose their power, leaving chunks of ice cubes in your smoothies. You can expect longer blending time to produce the same superb smoothies as when the blender was new. You might even have to lift and shake the jar multiple times during a blending cycle. These are just some of the pains you need to go through once the blender performance starts to degrade.

The Blendtec Designer Series, on the other hand, has you covered for 7 long years. It means that at the minimum, it will be another 7 years before you need to go out and look for a new blender for yourself. It saves you the hassle of having to shop for a brand new blender every 9 to 12 months.

Now, do yourself a simple favor. Multiply $50 by a factor of 7. Tell me if the Blendtec Designer Series is still an expensive blender to you.

It Makes Smoothie Making Easy any 5th Grade Can Do

What about the ease of use? If there is any blender that a fifth grade can use and still fantastic smoothies, it has to be the Blendtec Designer Series. Let me explain why.

If you are a true smoothie purist, you’ll know that more often than not, you need some kind of intervention to get the blending cycle going. At the beginning, you need to start on low speed and slowly turn into high speed. But along the way, you still need to adjust the speed depending on the ingredients you have and the thickness of your smoothie.

Aha… If your smoothies have not been so great, you now know why.

With Blendtec Designer Series, it takes any guesswork out of the blending process. The preset smoothie program works like a charm. All you need to do is touch the smoothie icon, let it does its job and get your glass ready. It is that simple.

Why only the Blendtec Designer is able to do that and not others? 2 good reasons for this. First, it is the Wildside jar design. Instead of being a 4-sided container, you have a fifth side with the Wildside jar. It seems like a minor tweak but this patented design is what makes all the tampering unecessary.

Second, it is the intelligent speed control. The smoothie program starts the blender at low speed and slowly turn into high speed.

The other thing that sets the Blendtec Designer apart from its peers is the digital touch control panel. The digital touch panel makes this blender look sexy, sleek and futuristic. If you have spent a good amount of money renovating your kitchen to achieve that modern look, the Blendtec Designer Series will fit perfectly.

Very often, beauty is often associated with certain trade-off in functionality or practicality. This is certainly not the case with this blender.

On the contrary, the digital touch control makes cleaning super easy. If you often make purees, soups or hummus, you know what a hassle it can be to clean those oily and dirty knobs and buttons. With the digital panel, cleaning takes no more than a simple wipe.

There is 1 thing that the digital panel can do but not the traditional buttons and knobs. First, it tells you exactly how many blending cycles you have completed. To savvy blender users who wants to know exactly how many times they have put their blenders to use, such information will be useful. From there, you can compute the amount of savings you enjoyed compared to buying your smoothies from the shops.

In addition, there is a countdown timer displayed when you select one of the 6 pre-set programs. This tells you how long before your smoothies, purees or ice-cream is ready. No more curious guesses here.

Designed to Fit under the Cabinet

The primary job of a blender is to blend well. Be it smoothies. Soup. Purees. Hummus. Or Jam.

But one aspect that is often overlooked by blender manufacturers is the height of their jar. Is this crucial? Yes. Here is why.

The distance separating the lower and upper cabinets found in most American household ranges from 18″ to 21″. If your kitchen construction does not deviate from the norm, this blender will fit in nicely.

This means that you don’t have to reserve 2 separate spaces in your kitchen. Normally, what you have to do is place the base on the countertop and the jar inside the cabinet. With Blendtec Designer Series, you can leave both the jar and base as 1 unit on your countertop.

It seems trivial. But trust me. If you seriously intend to make blending part of your daily routine, this trivial thing can make the difference. Once you have to put the jar in the cabinet, it will only be a matter of time before laziness kicks in. Soon, you’ll find yourself stop making smoothies entirely!

I’ve seen that happened to a lot of my friends. That’s why I think this attention to little detail is what makes Blendtec so awesome.

Is Blendtec Designer Series Good at Making Peanut Butter?

Everyone loves peanut butter, don’t we? But too often, we are disappointed with the quality of the peanut butter sold on the stores.

That’s why I love making my own peanut butter!

If you are really fanatic about peanut butter, the bad news is this is not the best blender for peanut butter. It’s not that you totally can’t make peanut butter with it. But it takes longer time and extra effort to make really nice peanut butter.

Blendtec Designer Series Blender Reviews in making peanut butter

Make Great Peanut Butters with the Blendtec Twister Jar

There are dozens of peanut butter showdown between Vitamix vs Blendtec. In all instances, it is evident that Vitamix 5200, the closest alternative to Blendtec Designer Series, does a better job.

But… Better still does not equate to Best! The good news is if you are truly a peanut butter mania, you can get the Twister jar. Once you replace the Wildside jar with the Twister jar, the Blendtec Designer turns into a totally different blender altogether.

It even beats the Vitamix 5200 in terms of the effort and amount of time taken to make really soft, smooth and creamy peanut butter.

Don’t get me wrong. Vitamix 5200 is a superb blender. But while some people prefer the tampering approach, others prefer the effortless approach. This is clearly the case when I used the Twister jar to make my rich creamy and yummylicious almond peanut butter.

If you love making thick paste like peanut butter, you should seriously consider getting the Twister jar. At more than $100 a piece, the Twister jar is definitely not cheap. But if you have the budget and you prefer to make your own thick paste rather than buying it from the store, I’d recommend getting the Twister jar.

Think Blendtec Designer Series is Expensive? Not when You See it as Health Investment

The Blendtec Designer Series is clearly not designed to be just another blender. What the company does is take its hugely popular Total Classic Blender and enhances it to bring it even closer to perfection.

It is referred to as The Swiss Army of Blender. I couldn’t agree more. Except for peanut butter, I think this is one of the best blender ever built.

“Don’t judge a book by its cover”. This is something that best applies to Blendtec Designer Series. The initial price tag may be hefty. But if I think of it as an investment for my own health and the well-being of my families, then it is very well maybe one of the best investments that I can afford.

“At least for my own health and my families,” I told myself when before I finally made up my mind back then.

I’ve had the Blendtec Designer Series for few years now and it is still going strong. I’ve made hundreds of smoothie servings, my favorite tomato purees, my kids’ favorite hummus and those yummy (and healthy) ice-cream!

Ask yourself this question. If you can make all these superbly healthy and delicious food and you don’t have to worry about getting another blender for the next 7 years, do you think it is an expensive investment? My simple mental calculation tells me it’s not. How about you?
