Day 282: SS Galaxy

Ever wanted to take a cruise (or take another one, but hate those lifeboat drills :P)? Now you can have the cruise experience in Second Life!
Welcome to the SS Galaxy!
Galaxy is 3-sims in size...Just like those monster cruise ships today!
SS Galaxy is basically a set of residential/commercial sims. The Fore and Mid sections of the ship are residential. And the Aft section is commercial.
The main entrance into the ship is in the Aft section. This is the main reception area and during certain hours, theres even a live ship's officer to greet you :)
The ship is truly massive! So be sure to consult the wall maps (which are fortunately all over the place).
You can also use the teleporters to get around. Each section of the ship (Fore, Mid, Aft) has its own teleporter. The teleporter will take you directly to the cool spots in each section of the ship :)
Lets start at the Fore section!
Theres the Starlight lounge...a cool place to relax and have some champagne and caviar :P
A wedding chapel, in case you meet that perfect someone on board :)
And a dance club called the "Boiler Room", where you can go dance with that special someone :P
BTW, certain areas on the ship are restricted to residents (I think that includes the "Boiler Room", unfortunately...)
The Mid section has a beautiful Atrium Garden that runs along the length of the bottom deck...
It has a huge pool with a cool slide, and an ice skating rink behind it...
Even go jogging: Yes, really, jogging. Theres a long jogging path around the top deck of the ship. There is a pole that lets you rez a jogger poseball. If you use the poseball, you will jog all the way around the ship. Try it in heels :P
There is also an art gallery and a couple lounges, including one with one of these Holodeck thingies that draw a whole scene around you :)
The Aft section is all about shopping. Its basically a gigantic mall with 6 decks of shops!
When you are done with shopping, you can enjoy a cup of coffee outside at the Sunset Cafe...
Or play a game of chess...
And the best part...the Zodiac Ballroom, where you can dance the night away under the giant dome...
There are also exclusive free gowns and tuxes available :)
Just like a cruise ship, there is even an event schedule...so you wont get bored during the cruise :P
Keep in mind that the SS Galaxy is a set of residential/commercial sims. So you can actually rent a cabin and really have the whole cruise experience. But also be aware that some residents do "live" here, so be nice when wandering around outside their cabins :)
The SS Galaxy is really really big, so it will take some time to get around (unfortunately, flying is disabled). But keep those teleporters in mind will save a lot of time!
To come see the SS Galaxy, click on Search, select Places, and enter "galaxy" as the keyword. A good place to start is the Galaxy AFT (this is the main entrance). The SLURL is Galaxy AFT (63,32,21).
I have ALWAYS wanted to do the Titanic thing on a cruise ship :)
Warning: I fell off the ship twice while trying to do this :P

I have visited the SS Galaxy but it's so huge, I didn't get to see everything. At the reception (lower deck) I talked to someone from the staff. They are really nice and helpful and she helped me with a question I had.
Speaking of questions, what does "Boiler Room" mean?
Natalia, I want to thank you for including the yellow texture "sea shells" (the ones that go below the prim shells on the breasts) in the mermaid outfit. At first I thought they were unnecessary. But they were a life savers! Giggles! ;-) I wrote about that in my blog. Basically, what happened was this, I teleported and all my attachments were "relocated" and appeared inbetween my legs (hair, shells, everything). Without the texture yellow sea shells covering the nipples i would have been topless! LOL!!
Thank you!!!
Well, i guess this is such a nice place so i ask my hubby Sean to check it out. But sadly he wasn't able to get in..just wonderin' why..
Oh hey, i just wanna say thanks Natalia. You're blog has been an inspiration to me. I've been reading your blog especially on building. Haven't been on SL for months and i can't wait to get back soon.. surely i will be checking out your place and shop...lol! :)
Thanks again and Have a great day!
Wild!!
What a good idea.
I tried to visit but was unable to enter. *sigh* Will always wonder about all that shopping you mentioned.... :)
hi!
I love your blog. I've used it as a travel guide and it is so helpful.
What's crazy is that I was working on a blog post about the Galaxy when I saw that you had just wrote one. Crazy. I think we might have been there at the same time. It is so huge though you'd never know.
:-)
What, not a single appearance of a mermaid? I thought they loved to frolic in the bow wave?
Wilhelmina, I think "Boiler Room" refers to the old ships when they used to have "boilers" to boil water for making steam. Im not sure if they still have boiler rooms on new ships (maybe thats where the engine is...) But in Galaxy, its a disco :P
The same thing happened to me with my prim sea shells. So embarrasing :P Thats why I added the "sea shell underwear"! Im so glad they came in handy for you too!
Stacey, thats strange...the SS Galaxy sims usually arent that busy. But it could just be an SL thing... (we have had like 45,000 residents at the same time in SL!) Hope you get a chance to see it :)
Ginseng, its such a cool idea. I hope they have more activities on the ship!
Marie, hmmm...I checked again and it seems to be working. Hopefully it was a temporary thing... Lol oh well, thankfully there are other places to shop in SL ;P
Noelle, lol we might have been there at the same time :) We each bring a diff perspective, so its fun to read about other people's experiences!
Virrginia, lol I fell off the front of the ship twice. So there was a mermaid involved, but it wasnt pretty: I was splattered on the ocean floor :P
Natalia, if you really want to do the "Titanic" thing on the bow or the prow or whatever of a ship, then visit the Charmed Titanic. There are poseballs there that stike the pose from the movie. (Best if you bring a guy along to try it with you!) A great spot for pics, too.
Daisyblue, ooo...Ive heard of the Charmed Titanic, but didnt know they have the poseballs at the front of the ship! I have to go check it out :) Thank you so much! :)
Do you think you could post the SLurl to the Charming Titanic?
Dear Anonymous, the Charmed Titanic is at http://slurl.com/secondlife/Caribbean%20Wave/72/103/46 (also Search/Places for "titanic" ;) )
