Day 188: SL Face of L'Oreal Paris Pageant

Today was the Second Life Face of L'Oreal Paris Pageant
I was a finalist in the pageant, but alas was not a top scoring girl in the competition. But it doesnt stop me from writing about it :)
We started bright and early at 9:00AM SL today with the filming of the machinima movie (I still cant get used to that word :P). The film crew took some shots of us in advance to use in a movie about the event (which will hopefully be shown on YouTube).
The actualy pageant started at 12:00noon SL to a packed sim. The event was hosted at the ASpiRE! sim, with a professional modeling stage and audience seating.
With 18 contestants, staff, film crew, judges, and a small audience, the sim was packed to capacity. All of us were saying our Linden prayers, hoping that we would not have to re-log :)
BTW, the pageant staff was very strict about audience members wearing any prim items (including prim hairs). Thats why you see a lot of bald residents in this shot :P
Of course, I had to make new outfits for this event :) This event was similar to the Miss Second Life Pageant, with casual, swimwear, and formal outfits, in that order. The emphasis was on glamour and class.
We wear each outfit, walk out on stage, and stike 3 poses (holding for 15 to 30 seconds on each pose). Three judges from L'Oreal then score us from 1 to 10 for each outfit.
So here is my casual outfit, based on a Gucci design (with the latest prim belt and matching boots, of course). I will go more into each outfit tomorrow...because I can totally milk it for another blog entry :P
Here is my diamond-lined million dollar bikini :) Those dots around the borders of the bikini are prim diamonds. Many of them :P Remember those million dollar bras from Victoria's Secret?
Well, I could hardly come in my SL historical first PC Compliant Particle Bikini :P.
And the formal gown. This is a completed version of one of the candidate outfits from the Miss SL Pageant. With some really cool ruffles around the neckline.
Unfortunately, the pageant told us not to wear hats...the original version also had a really cool hat...
I rushed the construction of these 3 outfits, because we had to be ready for the machinima shoot. So they were done over 3 nearly all-nighters :) But they came out phenomenal: probably the best work I did to date!
Unfortunately, L'Oreal was searching for a different kind of look...so no luck this time... :P
Here we were backstage, waiting for our turn on the catwalk!
After a nearly 4-hour pageant, they announced the 3 top scoring girls:
Alissa and Happy...
and after a pause, the winner is...
Isabella Sampaio, the Second Life Face of L'Oréal Paris 2007!
Congratulations, Isabella!
Isabella wore a gorgeous red rose formal gown. The tiara was provided by Random Calliope as a special gift to the winner!
Ahh...back underwater after a long day :)
Well, theres always next time... (thats if my family doesnt kill me first :P)
P.S. Check out these other great blog entries for another perspective on the Pageant (Let me know if I am missing anyone :) ):

Oh Natalia, so sorry to hear the judges have sawdust in in their heads.
Love the formal gown to bits. Hey! How about a Ms Mermaid comp?
after each of my forced exits (shooting highrez shots tends to stress my viewer) i cammed back into the waiting area and watched everyone's gray blob rez up. you were consistently coming up fastest. in events like this (the map showed 81 avis at one time) the l'oreal judges should factor this in. i could actually tell from the model's avi just who's equipment (and subsequent emotional responses) was cool under fire. these stressful situations, technical and emotional, are effects not so easily measured. viewed against a low lag (few avis) beauty competition, this contest really brought out the best and moved all participatants' experiences for fashion shows very far in deed.
well, i suppose you cant win them all, but if it wa audience voting natalia, you would have won hands down
and anyway - you dont really want your av becoming a trademark of loreal?
Looks like fun, and yout outfits were amazing
Awww, I'm sorry you didn't win, but congrats on making it as far as you did :)
By the way, I love that casual dress :)
It was a wonderful event!
*untwists from her pretzel position of luck and sighs heavily* Dangit, I was sure that would help.
From the pictures hon, you looked absolutely lovely and they were fools for not picking you. You did some awesome work on those outfits.. damn that gown is wonderful! Are you going to put it in the shop? *bounces* I'd love to buy it!
And yes, there's always next time.. but go spend some time with your family! *chuckles* And rest! You must be exhausted!
*huggles*
Ali
obviously the judges werent paying attention if you didnt win. you're 3 outfits are amazing!
i'm sure this would have turn out differently if the residents would have been aloud to vote ^^
i hear there is a second life next top model pageant starting soon are you going to participate to that too? *looks behind her as natalia family member jump on her and drags her away, covering her mouth*
i was kidiiiinnnnggggg!!!
It's a shame you did not win Natalia, but you hold a far more important Title in any event to some piffling RL thingamahoo ;)
Sorry you didn't win Natalia. You deserved to....you looked lovely! Great job on the outfits.
Caterin, L'Oreal is a company, and they have a certain image in mind. I know they are not necessarily looking for well-made outfits, but a certain image. I just wasnt it...oh well :)
Lol I would be afraid of a Ms Mermaid comp! What would we wear for formal? :P
Encore, thank you so much! I didnt realize it had that effect. But I used a low lag AO script (Franimation with Flip Mod). I also went thru my poses every few minutes to keep them loaded and ready. That seems to improve rezzing time too! I have to remember that :)
And Encore, the show really did prove that we can do something spectacular in SL! I cant believe we fit 81 people in just 1 sim! Imagine if we did the show with 4 sims and a live video feed! :)
Lyndsey, thank you so much :) Heehee it was an interesting challenge, and I did learn a lot of things during the pageant, since they force you to do things you would not otherwise try.
Chloe, thank you! Im glad just to have the experience. And there is always something else later :) The casual outfit is cool! The belt came out really well.
Ana, yes, it was an interesting event. I cant wait to see the movie. (AWM said there was a preview already, so should have something soon!)
Alison, heehee thank you so much for your prayers and twisting! I tried my best, but they were very definitely looking for something different.
I am going over the outfits to see which I can put in the store, and how much tweaking is involved. I need to figure out what to do about the ruffles on the formal gown (they are pretty, but form-fitted to me, and would be hard to fit anyone else). I'll see if I can draw in the ruffles instead...
Tiana, this pageant really wasnt about the outfits. L'Oreal was looking for a particular face/model. I was not what they were looking for, so the clothes didnt matter. There is always something else later :)
Im sure my mom would *KILL* me if I do this again any time soon! I begged and pleaded and made all kinds of promises...So I have to lay off for a while :P
Isobelle, thank you :) I appreciate that, and I think I definitely fit the Miss SL title better. It is very interesting how your taste changes after spending time in SL...
Dear Anonymous, thank you so much. I am glad to have the experience and the outfits came out very well. So there is always next time :)
Nat:
I am so sorry for being out that time.
Again you give me a lesson of sportsmanship and fellowship.
Anyway, last photo is really amazing.
*hugs*
Trouble, thank you so much :) I found a new trick to shooting mermaid animations! Most of the anims move too quickly, but there is an option under the Debug menu (Client/Character/Slow Motion Animation, I think) that slows down the animations so you can take photos! So cool :)
