Day 173: Gadget: Particle Wizard
I guess its OK for me to sneak a post in while no one is looking... :) I really miss not posting on a daily basis. (but sure feels like someone has taken over...)
Since we've been talking about Particle Tutorials, I thought it would be cool to share a cool particle gadget!
Im not too sure what the name of the store is, but the gadget is called Particle Wizard.
Theres even a free demo version you can try :)
With the demo version, you get a golden ball which you rez on the ground. After you touch it, it links you to a website.
The scary (or cool) part is that you need to download and install a program for your PC. I dont think theres a Mac version :(. I was a little scared to do this, since Ive blown up my PC before and gotten yelled at by tech support (my brother :P). Thankfully, this is a small program and installed without any problems on my PC.
**Update: There seems to be a problem with Particle Wizard and Firefox. I havent tried it myself, but just FYI if you are using Firefox... (thanks for the comment, Jungle!)
Up comes a really neat window with all the settings for tweaking a particle script. This program running on your PC actually talks to the golden ball in-world! How cool is that? :)
As soon as they started talking, the golden ball burst into flames!
The window on your PC lets you play with all the particle settings, including pattern, size, movement rates, and angle (you know, those things I figure out at the Particle Laboratory). I love the angle thing in Particle Wizard, which makes it SO MUCH easier (I still have no clue how the angles work :P).
The Particle Wizard comes with a bunch of pre-made particle settings, including smoke, fire, mist, rain...
a huge star dome (the black thing in the middle is my workshop!)...
and even a heart poofer! Hey, thats what Im going to write about next!
Along with these settings are particle textures to create these effects.
In the Full version of Particle Wizard, you can load and save these settings from your PC. Here is the coolest part: the Full version can create particle scripts for you, with your name as the Creator. That means you will have full rights to these scripts and can sell or do anything you like with them!
So if you are interested in playing with particles, try out the demo version of Particle Wizard for free. The Full version is only L$499 (thats like $2 US).
To check out the Particle Wizard, click on Search, select the Places tab, and enter "particle wizard" as the keyword. The SLURL is Semang (220,44,302)
P.S. I signed up for another beauty pageant :) I know, I know, I said no more after Miss Second Life. But Im weak...and this pageant is so cool!
Its the SL Face of L’Oreal 2007. The prize is a year's supply of L'Oreal cosmetics, a spot on the L'Oreal website, and a modeling contract with ASpiRE! Modeling Agency!
The event is a 1-day thing on Mar 31. Dont worry, I wont bug you for votes! :P It is a runway competition with 3 looks: classy casual, formal, and bikini glamor. So Im off to prepare outfits!
Entries will be accepted until Mar 18, so its not too late. Sign up and join in the fun! :)

Nat:
I wish you win.

Well. I wish you both win....
Good luck to you both.

Tiana, this gadget is really easy to use...dont need scripting at all. The paid version makes the script for you, so all you have to do is drop it in a prim :)
Ana, good luck with the contest! I went to Aspire and found out that there is only a single event. The deadline for application is Mar 18, and the contest is Mar 31. I hope we both make it too! :)
Trouble, its fun just to see what its like. I hope we both make it to the event on Mar 31 :)
I can't link my demo to the website, b/c Firefox doesn't recognize secondlifeparticle.
Oh well,
Jungle Jewell
Jungle, thank you for mentioning that. I will update the post with your comment!
That's too bad...if you like working with particles, this is a really neat thing!
