Day 108: Miss Second Life Casual Wear/Building Round

Today was the Miss Second Life Casual Wear Building Event. Wow, what a day! :)
I totally forgot about the upgrades on Wednesday mornings. When I tried logging in to practice...well...the grid was down. And then I read about the major upgrade! Thankfully, they did not go through with it. :)
Then after a bunch of practice, I managed to get my practice scene down to about 12 minutes. That left some room for lag and for dealing with new textures.
At the appointed time, we were given an assorted mix of 12 textures, everything from starry night skies to yellow polkadot on pink.
We were instructed to use only these textures or solid colors. No scripts. And to build to the dimensions of the black platforms. We had 15 minutes and can build whatever we like.
Then off we go, with 15 minutes on the clock!
When I was practicing in my workshop, I was able to flip prims around and apply textures with ease. The Event took place in a mall with lots of campers. So there was a little bit of lag (not too bad). Occasionally, the texture wouldnt stay, and kept turning back to white. Also, pressing Shift and dragging on a prim didnt always duplicate it; it actually moved the prim out of alignment! Dealing with these issues took up precious time.
Oh, and 2 guys came by for a friendly "Hey Sexy" chat :P Thankfully, the Event Admin jumped right in.
I completed the main scene with 30 seconds to go. There were 2 wall panels in the practice scene, but I didnt want to rush them in. Also, the cloud texture didnt look good for a backdrop.
By the time the Event Admin said "Stop", I was shaking like a leaf! Lol Told you I wasnt very good under pressure :)
So here's my scene, called "Tea for Two".
Theres a table with 2 chairs and 2 "poseballs" on the chairs. They arent really poseballs, since we couldnt use scripts (they are just normal spheres). Its the SL way of saying that a man is having tea with a woman.
Then theres the teapot and 2 teacups. I used the Starry Night texture on the teapot and teacups, and even put gold trim around the lip of the teacups and saucers :)
And the yellow flowers are the color accent for the scene.
I managed to use 6 out of the 12 textures provided! :) I could have used 8, but ran out of time!
Really, thats the best I could do in 15 minutes! And thats pulling a lot of tricks with duplicating and re-using shapes (such as using the table leg for chair leg and flower vase).
Some of the other contestant's scenes are already up on display. Here is one using the starry night skies for a room.
Or this ballerina sculpture, done in just 15 minutes!
There will be a voting event next week at the mall. So I will let you know as soon as I get the details :)
I REALLY could use a drink of tea now :)

Wow! Well done Natalia, amazing work in such a short space of time!
Love the way you used the same shape for different bits too, shows cunning.
x
Well done - I'm still a bit flabbergasted that you did all that in 15 minutes! I think it took me 15 minutes to make a belt yesterday. ;) You've made such a welcoming little scene and the yellow flowers really tie it all together. Good luck with the rest of the competition!
Great job, really cute scene!
Let us know when we can vote for you ;)
It takes me 2 to 3 days to make my high heel shoes so 15 min to build something is amazing.
gosh Natalia, I'm so impressed with your work, what speed and thought!
It may sound like a chorus, but: wow, in 15 minutes? And such a cute ensemble like that!
I sure hope you win!
Hey Natalia!
Speaking of building, do you think you could make a tutorial on how to make ribbons and bows?
That would be great.
xP
Gah. 15 minutes is usually how long it takes me to make my first five or so prims then delete them all in a fit of pique :)
Seriously, though, love the vase! What were the parameters for that?
Jose, yes, I had to reuse a lot of shapes, cause it would take too long otherwise. The handles for the teacup, teapot, and the teapot spout are also the same shape. That was one of the things I saw people do in the competitions.
Laverne, thanks :) I love the flower too, and Im so glad I had time to get them in!
Ged, thanks. I think voting is next week (I will, of course, keep everyone posted :) ).
Sakura, heehee I spent about 3 days practicing...and I was still a nervous wreck! :)
Caterin, thank you. Wow talk about pressure! Hope I never have to do that again.
Lauralee, I hope I do well! There are a couple nice pieces out there as well, so the competition is stiff :)
Dear Anonymous, what a great idea to do something on bows and ribbons. I will put something together right after Im done milking the shoe tutorials :P Pls let me know if theres something else I should do!
Virrginia, heehee it takes me probably longer normally...this is just a well practiced scene.
The vase is 2 pieces:
The top is a torus Size X=4,Y=4,Z=4; Hollow=95; Hole Size Y=0.4; Profile Cut B=0.15, E=0.45. In practice though, this is ripped off the table leg :)
The bottom is a cylinder, Size X=0.15,Y=0.15,Z=0.15
Dont you love tori? :)
Sounds like fun, Mabye next time they do the pageant Ill enter. You made such a fun little scene. Good luck!
WOW!!
Ekio, by all means, you should think about entering for next year's pageant. There have already been several people inquiring about the next pageant. Looks like the event will grow!
This year's event should be wrapped up end of Jan or in Feb. This year's event signup started in Oct. I will definitely let everyone know the details on the next pageant. Also, the misssl.com website has the latest info. :)
