Day 100: Lacy Italian

Im 100 days old! Yay! :)
Today, I decided to go hang out at the Parioli Rome, Italy sim. Of course, if I have to hang out in Italy, Im going to need some Italian fashion. More about that later :)
Parioli is an Italian themed sim with shopping, sights, museum, and Italians. I did bump into a couple of tall, dark handsome Italian men who spoke only a little English. I wonder how they say "Hey Sexy" in Italian? :P
Unlike ROMA, Parioli is modern Rome. With water fountains, cafes, shops, and even a disco.
Say, isnt this where that mean reporter guy asked the princess to put her hand into the wall in Roman Holiday?
They even have the best olive oil in Second Life made fresh right here. Really, its the best, cause the sign says so! :)
And look, theres a soccer field here. Im sorry, "football" field :P Isnt "football" like the all-time passion for Italians?
I couldnt find any information or notecards while I was here. But this field is setup to play, with a scoreboard and spectator seats. I wonder if they would let me play in heels?
Oh, and you gotta check out this Dream Room thingie. You go inside, and close the door. (I didnt do it here cause the pix would be all weird) Anyway, the thingie starts up, and puts pictures all around you, along with sound effects. So one minute you are in the desert, the next, you are under water! Really cool.
Yes, darling? Are you talking to me? Im just so cool today! :P
And whats Italy without a few sidewalk cafes and restaurants?
And be sure to check out the Sixth Finger Gallery. They have some cool moving pieces in there, especially in the skybox (take the teleporter to go up). Neat tricks :)
To come to Parioli, click on Search, select the Places tab, and enter "parioli" as the keyword. The SLURL is: Parioli (99,137,40).
This outfit was inspired by an actual Italian designer. Ill give you a hint: short name, starts with a "G", ends in an "i" *wink*.
The outfit was an exercise in 2 things: lace and collar.
Remember I mentioned before that I wanted to work with lace? Well, here it is! Full lace trim with transparency. Of course as I mentioned previously, transparency in flexi-prims causes all kinds of annoying display problems. To overcome these problems, I needed a way to ensure that there was minimal overlap between the skirt panels. Thanks to Ged's LoopRez script, I was able to create a set of panels that provided coverage, yet had minimum overlap. Thanks Ged! :)
The other thing was the collar. I was at a masquerade ball a few nights ago. Almost all the guys were in tuxedos. Some really fancy ones too. But almost all of them had drawn on ties. And all of them had drawn on collars. Not a prim collar in sight.
Textures are wonderful. But I dont think that things that really stick out should be drawn with textures. Things like shirt collars. The drawn collars look flat, even a bit surreal.
I went shopping for a plain white shirt several weeks ago and could not find a shirt with a prim collar. Im beginning to feel for you guys and how hard it is to find good cloths in SL! :)
So I decided to try making one for this outfit. Its a hollowed and tapered cylinder. The fitting took some work, but it looks nice once its in place. Its a single prim, so its easy to adjust if necessary.
Now I am really wondering why I havent seen a prim shirt collar in SL. Have you seen any?
BTW, I didnt make these sunglasses...I bought them a while back. I need some protection from the harsh glare of Force Sun/Noon! :)
OK, dont worry! Dont panic! Ive got this under control. I can handle a subway car... Ah...does anyone know the Italian word for "stop"?

'Hello Sexy' in Italian is something like 'Ciao Bella', which I think sounds much nicer!
Ohhh, I love that skirt, will it be in your shop soon? C
Love your outfits!
You have a shop...?
Happy Hundredth! Very nice skirt - you make it sound so easy.
Caterin, heehee, I will look out for the "Ciao Bella's" :P And the skirt is in Sirena Fashions already (Ive started putting the outfits in the shop on the same day so I dont fall behind :) ).
Ana, yes! I have a store named Sirena Fashions (SLURL: http://slurl.com/secondlife/rieul/151/30/77/) I built it for a fashion show I did a few weeks back, and have been adding things to it slowly. All the newer outfits are there though. :)
Lauralee, thanks :) I really enjoy making and trying diff things with skirts!
Natalia!! I'm so glad I found your blog, you're amazing for sharing tips with us, I'm devouring every bit of it :D
Thanx!!
Cinthia
Oooh, are you going to give us steps on how to make a skirt like that?
I WANT IT!!!!!!
Natalia, really love your blog!
i was quite amused about your collar comment because just the other day I was busy in the sandbox to make one.. had exactly the same thought!
I got some advanced texturing issues with prims though; might IM you sometime if you don't mind.
Keep up the good work!
Cinthia, thanks (and what a pretty name! :) )
Dear Anonymous, regarding how to make this skirt, yes, it is a combination of things I did in blog. This skirt requires 2 things that are different from most other skirts: lace and non-overlapping panels.
Lace requires a complex Alpha Channel. Not overly so, because it is still opaque. You can find a variety of lace brushes on Deviantart.com. The Day 47 post talks about creating complex Alpha Channels. I will probably do some step-by-step thing later :)
Non-overlapping panels is a combination of tweaking the panels in LoopRez so they dont touch, and manual adjustments (mostly the latter :P). Theres no technique, per se...just try to shuffle the panels around to minimize display issues.
Hope that helps! :)
Dear (Second) Anonymous, the skirt is available at Sirena Fashions right now :)
Vinnie, isnt it so true about the collars? Im kinda mystified by that. If you can make some good men's outfits, I bet you would have a good market for it! :)
And yes, pls IM me (Natalia Zelmanov) if I can be of help :)
Nat, you are amazing!! You have answered all of my questions regarding clothing in SL!! I'm going to start creating male clothing for all my guys out there who simply can't find anything to wear!!! Thanks for your help!!
Kassina Wylie ^_^
