Day 89: Scarlett in the West

***Update: Sadly, Sigil has been closed. Fortunately, Wild West role-playing continues in Tombstone.
Fiddle-dee-dee! I just dont know why Papa and Moma wanted to send me to San Francisco. I mean, I was just perfectly content in Georgia. And General Lee and the boys are doing so well. There was no reason to fear them Yanks. Why, I just know we have them beat!
And that awful stagecoach broke down, leaving us all stranded in this God-forsaken town of outlaws and gunmen.
Its just too bad the railroads aint done yet. Why, I could have been in California by now!
I do declare! This is a fair size town for the frontier. Why, they have a bank, hotel, Marshall's office, shops, even a barber.
Well, the townfolks seem decent enough. I was not here but 10 minutes, and several gentlemen offered to assist me. I guess they dont see too many proper ladies in these parts!
Just look at the saloon! Its usually filled with bandits, Indians, and barmaids. Not a decent lady in sight! Oh my lord, I swear this will be the end of me if they dont get that stagecoach fixed!
Is that a piano I see?
Bullet Extractions? Im sure glad the doc knows how to do that. Why, I witnessed 3 gunfights already. And I just got here! Its a good thing they dont shoot at you if you are unarmed!
Well, at least these are God-fearing folk! A proper church. What a sight for sore eyes!
A mining camp. I wonder if there is gold to be found! I heard tell that the was gold in these hills!
A calvary fort and Indian outpost! I do declare, this place is gigantic! Is there no end in sight?
Sigil is a wonderful recreation of a Western town based on the famous Spaghetti Westerns ("The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly", "A Fistful of Lindens", and "For a few Lindens More" :P). The town is set in the 1860-1870 period. If you are a Western fan or just want to see a wonderful town, you should not miss Sigil.
Note, Sigil is a role-playing sim. So you should come in human form, preferably in period dress. There are some free cloths at the arrival area. If you do not wish to participate in role-play, just wear the "Visitor Tag" you receive with the rules when you arrive. Dont worry, people here are very friendly, and they wont shoot you [unless you wear a gun or really begged them to].
But half the fun is to play along. Its really easy. Just try on your best "Howdy". Dont worry about getting it right. Its just for fun.
***Update: Sadly, Sigil has been closed. Fortunately, Wild West role-playing continues in Tombstone.
Today's gown is actually American Civil War-era Southern, not Western.
Its based on the gown worn by Scarlett O'Hara in "Gone with the Wind". This is the famous BBQ gown she wore during the opening scene, when she sat on the patio with her beaus.
This dress used a newly generated skirt using Ged Larsen's LoopRez Generator, a significantly improved version of the Necklace Generator. Ged has generously released the code to share with all of us. I am working with Ged to put together a couple of sample panels, settings, and instructions so we can release it. Hopefully, this should make flexi-prim skirts far easier to create. Thank you so much Ged!!
The LoopRez Generator is now available at the Sirena Hair & Fashion store.
And those ruffle armbands are actually small versions of flexi-prim skirts, each with 24 panels. There are actually more panels on each armband than on the main skirt. So effectively, I am wearing a skirt on each arm, plus one around my waist.
On Scarlett O'Hara's gown, she had ruffles in the front of the dress as well. I omitted those ruffles because it would be very difficult to fit properly. (I also ran out of time :P)
But the dress turned out nicely. And the armbands gave it that special extra touch!
Umm...Umm...I meant "H"! Theres got to be an "H" in that word!
Oh dear, oh dear, where shall I go? What shall I do?

So lovely to see such informed enthusiasm! I love your blog Natalia, you keep discovering such interesting places.

Why, welcome to the 19th century, Miss Zelmanov! I must confess I have been harboring a desire to see you scale the heights of Victoriana, and as one might expect, you happily dispatched said efforts with the ease and elegance that you displayed so happily with your modern ensembles.
Sigil is truly a pleasant town, despite its rough-hewn exterior. And the populace is composed of impressively talented and amazingly friendly locals who will cheerful let you join them in the RP fun (My friend and I portrayed stranded girls on their way to San Francisco, too! Really, SOMETHING ought to be done about the reliability of transport in that town....)
Oh, I am sure you get a thousand offers like this everyday, but should you ever wish to continue your Victorian explorations, please do visit Caledon someday. I would be happy to take you for an airship tour (though I suspect the local gentlemen might be more than happy to do so in my stead :P)
Excellent re-creation of the Scarlett dress. I'd love to wear it! How can I find the LoopRez Generator?
lauralee,
i'm hoping natalia might be willing to make the script available in her store.
but in the meantime, feel free to IM me in SL (ged larsen), and i'd be happy to drop a full perms script to you, and/or show you how to use it. or i could post it someplace on the web, somehow.
whatever works for you :)
Ged,
thanks, I will IM you!
Euterpe, thanks. Sigil was a really fun place to just see, even if you dont want to join in the role-play!
Virrginia, oh my, isnt the transportation awful in the West? :P Why I would love to have some civilized drinks with some proper ladies in Sigil! And I have the perfect dress in mind for Caledon...now I just need to figure out how to make it! :P Hope to see you soon! :)
Lauralee, I am planning to put the LoopRez Generator in the Sirena store, along with some sample panels. I have been using an earlier version of Ged's script. Ged has made some improvements, so I wanted to adjust the samples for the latest version. I will get it out there this week.
Ged, I absolutely want to put this out at the store. I am sorry its taking me some time...heehee holiday has been a bit rough on time. I will get that out there this week, I promise!
Hi Natalia, I love your blog, I just want to tell you that I think Sigil doesnt exist anymore!!! There is a new Western town now called Tombstone!! Its very nicely build. Also RP.
I have moved house there. So come and visit us sometime!!
I have written about it on my blog :
http://eppie.my-secondlife.nl/
Eppie, thank you so much for letting me know about Sigil! I am so sad its gone :( Sounds like Tombstone has taken over though, thats great!
I want to ask you something, is it some sort of a game? Because I would like to make it as well but I don't how, where... :)
Dear Anonymous, heehee yes...sorta. Second Life is like this virtual world where people create things and places in it (and have events and stuff). Its free to see and try (it only cost money if you buy stuff or want your own land to build on). So check it out: http://www.secondlife.com :)
