Day 70: Red Riding Hood in Luskwood

If you are around a computer this Wed 12/6 at 6:00pm-6:30pm Linden/PST can you please vote for me for the Miss Second Life Formal Wear event? The website is www.MissSL.com/gallery (only works from 6:00pm-6:30pm Linden/PST). Just select Rank 1st under my picture and click the Vote button. That's it! You dont need to be in Second Life or even have a Second Life account to vote. But the votes *MUST* be cast between 6:00pm-6:30pm Linden/PST to be counted! Thank you so much in advance! :)

And if you would like to see the Miss SL Group 5 event (my group), it takes place at Montserrat (41,121,22). I am giving TP coordinates because the SL Search/Places function is still not working. Or IM me (Natalia Zelmanov) and I will send you a TP :) But dont worry if you cant make it...I will be posting all the highlights this Wed :)

Little Red Riding Hood decided to go visit Grandma today. Instead of the usual route, she decided to go through Luskwood.

Luskwood is one of the oldest continuously operating sim in Second Life. And it is still going strong. Luskwood is a gathering place for furries, but humans are more than welcome, even ones with little red capes and picnic baskets :)

The strangest thing actually happened to me when I visited Luskwood today: A big black wolf attacked me with $L! He was handing out money to humans so they can buy furry AV's! :) This is a true story! So what kind of furry should I be? :)

Luskwood is full of giant trees connected by an elaborate system of walkways. Luskwood is home to Luskwood Creatures, one of the major furry AV vendors (check out their cool vending machines!) in Second Life.

The Luskwood Pub is a major hangout for furries. They even have their own live radio station, broadcasted right from the pub!

Luskwood also hosts a number of games and activities, including Artist Attack, where contestants are given a theme, draws something offline, uploads it, and are voted on by the audience. There is also a giant Zendo board, a park with a duck pond and kids playground set, and many different gathering areas.

And definitely check out the Luskwood General Store. They have a free and clean copy of the Invisibility Prim Public v1.1b (invisi-prim) script at the Store. Just drop this script into any prim, and it becomes an invisi-prim. Ill talk more about invisi-prims in future posts. Invisi-prims are used to hide parts of the avatar by making you transparent (people can see through parts of you). This is essential for making AV's that do not fully cover the avatar, and for making high-heel shoes. Guess what I used invisi-prims for? :P

Luskwood is a community area similar in spirit to The Shelter and New Citizens Plaza. Except Luskwood has a strong furry orientation. Both Newbies and Oldies are welcomed, and there always seems to be a bunch of people gathered or dancing near the arrival area. So feel free to drop by, make some friends, and ask questions about SL or the furry community.

To come to Luskwood, click the Search button, select the Places tab, and use "luskwood" as the keyword. The SLURL is Lusk (192,102,51).

Today's Little Red Riding Hood outfit is based on a classical rendition of the fairy tale character by George Federic Watts.

OK, so Im a *little* bit taller :P

The cloak is an attachment made from hollowed/tapered tori and spheres at the top, and cylinder-based flexi-prims at the bottom.

But the real reason behind doing this outfit today is that I wanted to make a hooded cloak as a possible accessory for the Miss SL Formalwear outfit. Unfortunately, the cloak does not seem to add anything to the dress. The beauty of the dress is in its lines...so I am going to have to leave the dress alone!

BTW, Second Life provides a number shared objects, textures, skins, hair, and even entire outfits for everyone to use. You can access these items from your Inventory screen by expanding the Library tab.

In fact, there is already a Little Red Riding Hood outfit in the Library. Thats where I got the picnic basket from. I just wasnt so sure about the rest of the outfit... ;P

Nat, leave that black dress alone! It looks perfect, so stop trying to tweak it!

Since the search is down and I haven't been able to find an "Advanced clothing design" class lately, could you be a sweetie and save me $20L by giving me a copy of the shirt and pants template? I'll vote for you if you do! (Well, I'll vote for you anyway.)

Pyxel...Heehee I know I should stop! Im just kinda nervous between now and Wed :P

Anyway, the Adv Clothing class is held at New Citizen's Plaza South, located at Hamnida (227,65,112). It is suppose to start on Mon at 6:00pm Linden/PST. But I dont see a listing for it today in events, so it may not happen today.

Hi Natalia, love the Red Riding Hood costume!
I would love to vote for you, but it involves being up at 2am RL time, which is probably taking my second life activity a bit too far;) I hope you win!

Thanks Sorcha! And see you tomorrow at the show!

Marion, please dont stay up just to vote! The message was really meant for people in the US, or late night owls like me :P. Anyway, thanks for the thought, and I will post the results on Wed :)

So, the furry has to ask: did you ever get a furry av? ^^

And I also have to say that your adventures in Second Life have inspired me to start a similar project, but furry oriented, as I've met many furs that aren't sure where to go.

So, thank you for the inspiration!

Samiya, lol actually...no. I never did. I stood there and stared at all the choices and couldnt make up my mind. And most of them are scary...too many big cats who like to eat fish ;P

Heehee I may end up getting a bunny AV or something :) They are SO CUTE!!!

Good luck on your blog :) SL has a large Fur culture, so theres a lot to write about :)

I can vouch for the Lusk bunnies! They're insanely cute, and even though they're older, they've got some nice features. The new Kani from Lost Furest are partially sculpted and very well done.

But thank you for the good luck! One of the things I wanted to include was information on the different avatars available (prices, features, etc).

Oh, something else you've inspire: the merhusky! Mixing and matching av parts is always fun. ^^

Samiya, I think I almost got the Lusk Bunny before :) I have to go back and look! Lol but Im awfully tempted by the Tiny bunnies :P

Lol OMG I didnt mean to start mixing AV parts! Im just a "normal" ocean mermaid :P
