Day 55: T-Shirt and Denim Skirt

Did you ever have a day when you are tired and just want to throw something on and go out? Well, that's sorta how I was feeling when making this outfit. So I did the unthinkable: I wore a T-shirt and jean...skirt (OK its at least a skirt).

Here I am, in front of Sarah's Freebie Paradise. Ive mentioned her place a couple times before, so I thought I should show it to you. Sarah's is another good place for newbies and cheapies (like me) to get freebies. All items inside are $1L or free.

The good thing about Sarah's is that she breaks the outfits up into separate packages and provides a nice display. Most other freebie places put several dozen outfits into one box, leaving you to sort it all out at home (or in a sandbox). Also, Sarah's has a few unique items of her own. So its definitely worth a visit if you have not been there. To go, Search for "sarah" under Places. The SLURL is NineInchNerds (126,112,24).

So you may be wondering what it says on my shirt. Well, heres a close-up. Yep, its my hero Jessica Rabbit. Shes saying (a slightly modified version of) her famous line, "I'm Not Bad...I'm Just Rezzed That Way..."

Actually, this T-shirt turned out to be a significant challenge in a way I did not expect. The T-shirt itself was very easy to put together, thanks to Robin Wood's T-Shirt Template. You can use this template to throw together a T-shirt with your choice of logo, text, and color. All you need is Photoshop. Robin even includes excellent step-by-step instructions on how to make your T-shirt.

I use Robin Wood's excellent templates for making texture maps for cloths. I also knew about the T-shirt templates. Recently, I even made a T-shirt for a Second Life male friend using this template. I mentioned male friend because it was a breeze to paste in a graphic in Photoshop, upload the texture to SL, create the shirt object, and it was ready to wear. And the shirt looks good on him (I wasnt staring or anything ;P).

So, inspired by my visit to Hollywood a couple days ago, I decided to make a Jessica Rabbit T-shirt. I put in the graphic for Jessica, added the text, changed the background color, and everything looked good in Photoshop. I exported the Targa (.tga) file and went to preview the texture. Still looks good. I clicked upload and created the shirt object.

Here is my original version of the T-shirt. OK Jessica is pretty skinny, but she looks like shes...well...being squeezed. Thats been one of my pet peeves about SL: A woman's shirt doesnt...well...stick to her chest like this. And the higher you push that Appearance/Shape/Torso slider (the 5th one down from the top), the bigger *ahem* the problem. And what woman isnt tempted to push that slider just a little further to the right? ;P

So after trying various arrangements of text and graphic, I gave up and just used a more horizontal graphic. This produced the final version you see at the top of this blog.

So if you ever need a quick custom T-shirt in Second Life, just pop over to Robin Wood's site and make one of your own. Just be sure you ask a girl to wear it first! :)

Ayakia, heehee there are prim clothing in SL (for...umm...unusual body sizes). But then everything has to be custom fitted :(
