Day 49: Goth and Hollywood

Welcome to Hollywood! Today, I decided to get my Goth gear in order, so I can be the little vampire princess. :) More about that later. But here I am in front of Second Life's Hollywood sign. In the SL Hollywood, there is a Hollywood Walk of Fame, next to the Chinese Mann theater. So like any good tourist visiting Hollywood, I had to take lots of pictures! Here is the SLURL: Hollywood (190,161,30).

Actually, I came to Hollywood today to check out a weekly sailing race. Sailing, you ask? Thats right, sailing is big sport here in Second Life. The Starboards Yacht Club operates 5 sims (servers) worth of water for sailing and boat racing. They have beginners lessons, and there are weekly races to compete in.

I found out about sailing through my friend. Her brother competes on a regular basis. He had invited me to sail with him. But I wasnt sure I wanted to be trapped on a boat with a big flirt! :P But I was curious (and need something to write about), so I came to be a spectator.

If I get the chance, I might even come to take one of the beginner's classes next week. It doesnt sound nearly as hard as the real thing, so why not? Beside, I would need sailing outfits, right? :)

Regarding my outfit, this was the result from my buying spree at Pixel Dolls' closeout sale. Pixel is giving away sample skin and selling other skins for $50L. So I decided to put together a Goth outfit, using a lighter color skin.

At first, I tried an actual Goth skin. You see quite a number of Goth AVs around SL. Most Goth AV's wear pure white skins, giving them that post-living demeanor. Here I am wearing the pure white skin.

But frankly, I have never been too fond of going pure white. It looks too unreal, as if I just escaped from a tub of flour. So I opted for a very light skin tone instead.

I wore a babydoll top I picked up from Pixel, freebie gloves and stockings, my black skirt and boots. Dont I look better with a little bit of color on my skin? :)

And here I am, in front of my hero! My all time favorite movie star! Jessica Rabbit! (Im not bad either...Im just rezzed that way! ;P)

Want to see something scary?

SL has been having some database issues recently. Since the last update, some SL sims have been slow to bake the AV skin textures, especially after you do a Preferences/Network/Clear Cache (recommended for reducing lag).

So you end up with the invisible woman! Here I am, wearing my 14 attachments, but no skin! I can walk around, dance, even do model poses like this. If this ever happens to you, just wait a few minutes and see if the skin comes in. If not, try relogging. That should clear it up.

Well, Im off to find some Goth hangouts! The little vampire princess needs a drink...bwahaha! ;P

I dunno if this TRULY helps, but I needed an excuse to post on your blog, which I found yesterday...I love it! I'm hooked! And it actually inspires me to get more serious about my activities in SL! Good on ya!

Anyway, I too have run across the "invisible skin" syndrome, and also at times, I'd switch outfits, and it would still look like I was wearing the previous one (This would be after ample time to load up the new outfit). I could switch my outfit to a totally different one, and it would look right, but when I selected my Victorian Dandy outfit, it looked like I was wearing a t-shirt and jeans! Well, what I did was I selected World >> Rebake textures. It worked like a champ. I don't know if this will help with invisibility or not, but it helped me!

Great blog!
